Vision Program
The Lions Club of Savannah "Project Vision" program provides eye exams and eyeglasses for children in the Chatham County School System.
Services are provided by the Georgia Eye Institute. The Center provides top-notch quality eye care regardless of opportunity and income. The objective then is to help those in need , particularly the area’s underserved youth , enjoy improved vision through properly prescribed eyewear , regardless of ability to pay. The Center provides examinations for a wide range of vision deficiencies and dispensing quality corrective eyewear.
Project Vision works closely with the school nurses who, after administering visual acuity tests, identify students who may be experiencing vision difficulties. These nurses also help ascertain the student’s family financial situation. Where an inability to pay for vision services would otherwise prohibit the student’s from receiving corrective treatment, the school nurse refers the case to the Sight Chairman of the Lions Club ,who then puts the student and his/her family in touch with the Center.
The Lions Club of Savannah provides the Vision Testers to the Chatham County School System. The Club has purchased 2 Titmus Vision Testers that are available to the Board of Education.
In Summary. These testers were purchased by the Lions Club of Savannah. The school nurses administer the tests, and those students that fail the vision acuity tests are referred to the Lions Club and club members in partnership with Chatham County Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS) schedule a complete eye exam thru The Georgia Eye Institute. The Georgia Eye Institute donates the eye exam and the Lions Club of Savannah supplies the glasses.
