First Christmas Tree Sale - 1977

The first Christmas tree sale by the Lions Club of Savannah was under the direction of Lion Jim Utsey, Chairman. The Christmas tree sale began late in November of 1977 and ended on December 15th. The Christmas tree sale took place on a small lot at the corner of Victory Drive and Cedar Street next to the Daffin Park tennis courts.

Our first annual sale was a huge success, due to the fine effort of our Savannah Lions Club members who put in many hours of work setting up the enclosures for the Christmas trees and the sale itself. The friendly atmosphere and the good fellowship among the Lions helped to put our First Annual Christmas Tree Sale over our expected goal.

More than 500 Christmas trees were sold, and we realized a profit of about $2,600.00 Because of our effort in this undertaking, the Lions Club of Savannah was very pleased to donate two Lions statues valued at $1,700.00 to the Georgia Camp for the Blind. These Lion statues were placed on both sides of the entrance to the camp.

This year's Annual Christmas Tree Sale will enable us to further grant and develop this most worthwhile charitable project called “The Georgia Camp for the Blind.”
